Ahnji—who is the true Tala Mayari—was born to a traditional clan of Keepers in a small settlement outside of Gridania, and left with her father shortly before her first nameday. When it became apparent to her father that he'd actually taken a daughter with him, he brought her back to the clan to stay with her mother. At this point she was given the name Tala and spent the rest of her childhood with her sisters and mothers. She would grow close to a girl from the richest neighbourhood in Gridania, the original Ahnji, and over the years they would fall in love and eventually get married.
When her wife decided to take up arms to fight in Eorzea's defense on Carteneau, Ahnji followed with her staff at the ready. No one truly could have guessed what lay ahead, and when Dalamud exploded and the Twelvesblades whisked away the two had no time to find each other. Ahnji reappeared five years later outside of Baelsar's Wall, right on time to be captured by an imperial patrol.
She was taken into Gyr Abania once the imperials recognized she had the Echo, and Aulus mal Asina was granted permission to use her as the very first test subject for the Resonant Project. Ultimately, tests could not continue for very long without funding, and the project was shelved for five years until Zenos yae Galvus approached Aulus. During this period of inaction, Ahnji was kept in stasis beneath the Resonatorium and was eventually found by Resistance soldiers when Krile Baldesion was rescued.
As of post-Endwalker, Ahnji has officially retired from adventuring and has opened a flower shop in Gridania with Tala. Having never been a true fighter, she's pleased to finally put down her staff and simply tend to her growing family.
Eirene
(she/her)
She could see and converse with moogles even before getting the Echo. She eats tomatoes raw but likes them best baked into a pie. She's much closer to her father than her mother and half-sisters and the first thing she does upon recovering in Stormblood is look for him.
